Mandalorian, Wormholes & Two Shitties

Welcome back to another fun filled episode from those irascible Nerds we all look forward to each week. Oh, and what a show we have for you all, let me tell you. What, hurry up you say, well then. First up we have DJ giving us an update on the Marvel movies failing to impress and the arguments have continued. This week we have some delusional moron, believe me you will agree that they are a moron when you hear what they have done. Oh right, well this delusional moron says what has got to be the dumbest thing and the biggest lie in history. It sets Buck off like all the fireworks for New Year’s Eve in one go. My goodness, he really tears into this one like nothing before. If you listen in just to hear him rant about some misguided fool then you will love this one, plus you might learn a few new insults.

Next up, after he catches his breathe Buck tells us about how some scientists believe they have figured out how to identify the existence of Wormholes. That’s right we said Wormholes. Those supposed mythical sci-fi tunnels through time and space purportedly linking us to the farthest reaches of the universe? Multiverse? Dimensional gateways? Well who knows, the gravity is more then we can fathom at this time. But it is something to do with that….Ahh, almost had me there. You will have to listen in to hear what and how the physicists think they can determine whether or not a wormhole exists.

Then we move to a legendary tale for inspiration in what we have crappily dubbed “A Tale of Two Shitties!” Sorry, couldn’t resist the sloppy pun, messy though it is, haha, that just plopped out. Anyway, we look at two epically bad mistakes from two different games studios and have a laugh and cry at the stupidity and hubris involved. These tales of woe and calamity are similar but different, and for one we will cheer and hope. The other we will jeer and poke, fun of naturally. Now, since we have you so excited to know this tale of misfortune we invite ye to listen further to the tale in yonder episode.

Finishing off as always with the regular shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and special events of interest. We also wish to invite you all to come join us at Supanova in Brisbane on Saturday 9th November. We do not have the faintest idea of which table we will be at, other than it is the TNC productions booth. So come along and say hi, join us in our game and meet the goofballs that are the Nerds. As always take care of yourselves, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

Egyptian, XCloud & Coppola

Hooray, it is episode 90 and all is well. This week we walk like Egyptians, question the cloud, and applaud Francis Coppola. But first up, have you got your tickets for Supanova Brisbane? Not long to go now. We are excited for it and are looking forward to watching all the awesome cosplayers and other amazing antics happening on the Saturday. Stop by and say hi if you are there.

Now first up we have news about the most incredible discovery of Egyptian sarcophagi of this millennium, the best in the last century also. Now, we have to say that it is due to a very sneaky priest who hid them to avoid the thieving grave robbers. So, thank you wise priest with your cunning plan. Because of you these remains are safe and will be protected at the new museum being built at Gaza. There were males, females, and children in these sarcophagi, if you want to know more listen in.

Next up we talk about a cloud. Not the soft fluffy kind you see floating through the sky, no, this is an xcloud. What is an xcloud you ask? It is a cloud that is brought to you by xbox and is intended to support mobile gaming with a cross platform goal in the long term. Sounds awesome right, you will finally be able to see the xbox tribe battle against the Playstation civilisation. Not that I’m biased mind you (Playstation rules). If you want to really get a grasp of the situation the Professor has a lot to say about it. So listen in and see what is happening.

Now, for the movie Nerds we have had Francis Coppola slamming Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as being kind of boring and pointless. To which James Gunn has taken umbrage, and spoken out claiming all sorts of nonsense. Buck takes great offense and gives a passionate response which is worthy of an Oscar Hall of Fame speech. Truly he seems to struggle to remain calm at times. Truly this could be one of his better grumpy old man moments, especially as it gets Professor to become passionate on the subject. If nothing else this is worthy of a listen.

As normal we have the shout out’s, remembrances, birthdays and special events of interest for the week. Also we would like to say good luck to all those undertaking exams at this time, study hard, and do well. Remember, fear is the mind killer, and stress is a by-product of fear, so relax, just think of the Frodo waking up in Rivendell at the end of the Lord of the Rings. That is the joy when you finish your last exam. Until next week, take care of yourselves, look out for each other, and stay hydrated.

Chemistry, Update & Dragons

Ready for a party in your ears from those wacky Nerds again? This week we are celebrating, scratching our chins in suspicion, and looking at upcoming events that we can use to make money. But first, grab a cup of Earl Grey, hot, get a comfy seat and get ready because we have a party. It’s here, that marvellous time of year when we find out who has won a noble prize! It’s awesome, kind of like a Nerds holiday celebrating knowledge and learning, yay! For those wondering Buck is bouncing around the office with excitement. Speaking of which, his topic this week is the Nobel prize winners in Chemistry, and it is for the Lithium Ion battery. A long time coming we know, but still, it is definitely worthy. Buck is still reading the lists and articles about this, and the Professor is enjoying this to.

Next up we have DJ telling us about the latest with him doing little, erm, um, oh, sorry. Apparently it is about the new Dolittle movie, not him being lazy. Now there are some interesting points in this section so make sure you listen carefully. We won’t give away all the details here, no, listen in and see what is happening. We can tell you there is a name change, and no, it isn’t DJ being rebranded to some funny name such as Purveyance Slave Droid. Mainly because he still hasn’t learned how to make the perfect cup of Earl Grey.

Next we hear how someone has had an epically lucky coincidence when naming their crowd funding campaign. We are told it is completely unintentional though. Although Buck thinks that this is the next generation of Citizen Con, sorry, Star Con, no, what is it, star rippoff? Oh you know what we mean. Anyway, this bloke was trying to raise capital for a game he was developing and listen in to hear the rest of this fantastic story.

As usual we have the shout outs, with special mention to Christina Koch and Jessica Meir, the first all female spacewalk crew. Then we have the usual remembrances, birthdays and special events. We are going to be appearing at Supanova Brisbane so stop by and say hello, we will be happy to see you, also we have a special announcement this next week. Until then, take care of yourselves, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

Archives, Electronics & Vikings

Welcome back to another awesome episode of Nerd pop culture delivered in a friendly manner by those loose gooses, the Nerds. This week we would like to say that since China hasn’t offered us any money to sell our self-respect or virtue that we support the protestors in Hong Kong. Viva la revolution! Now if we do not have an episode in the near future you know that they took us out like Hillary Clinton helps her opposition to have fatal accidents… Just going to leave this here and see who comes after us first.

Now onto the episode, first up is the Professor with a look at the Australian Video Game Archive. What is this you ask, well it is an amazingly cool idea and we hope it gets sorted out soon. Now if you love playing awesome games, love Australia, and are just a tragic nerd like our boys then you will love this. To know exactly what it is you are going to have to listen in and find out. But let us know on Facebook what game you think should go into the archive.

Next up we have finally achieved printed electronics that you can wear. That’s right, wear. Are you tired of not being able to hold your torch and need an extra hand, but don’t want to wear one of those straps around your head with a light on it? We have the solution for you, tattoo light systems. Want to stand out in the crowd and really be noticed? We can help you shine a light on your darkest corners. Sounds interesting right? Well listen up as this is our second featured topic for the week.

Do you wish that reality television had more things like axe throwing in it? Are you tired of shows like survivor where there is no chance of them dying? Well we have a show that is moving in the right direction, True Viking! The show with the potential to form a crew and going pillaging in a foreign monastery… um, maybe we are getting carried away here, oh well, it sounds better than the sewage from the Kardashians. This is our third topic of the week.

Then we have the games played, shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and special events. We hope you enjoy the show and that we entertain you and maybe even educate you on some of the topics we discuss. Now, we need to watch out for those Chinese hack…er um, gamers with better computer systems. Take care, stay safe, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

A Nerds Special - An Interview with An Aspie Life developer : Bradley Hennessey

Welcome to another fun filled instalment from the Nerds we all love. This week we have a fantastic special episode. We have a special guest join us and talk about their game and being a game developer. That’s right our guest has developed and published a computer game, entitled “An Aspie Life” and it is a lot of fun. Our guest is up and coming legend Bradley Hennessey and we ask those hard hitting questions that others are too scared to ask. If you want to know his choice of super power or the answer to cape or no cape you will need to listen in.

Machines, Steam & Godzilla

Hello, Ni hao, G’day, welcome to another episode of rambunctious fun and games from those Nerds we all love. We wish to say an especially warm welcome to our friends in China, and thank you for listening, you are awesome. Now this week we have Buck up first with news about the rise of the machines. Now please note we said rise, not uprising, two totally different things which we explain in the show. We discuss the different attitudes between countries like Japan who are excited to see advancement in AI and robotics; compared to the sad grumpy people in Hollywood who think Robots are going to take over the world in a violent revolution. But honestly, if the robots are going to take over can they hurry up, I mean have you looked at what those apes we call politicians are doing to the place? Things are so bad we have idiots somehow gluing themselves to the road, we all learned about glue in at 5 years of age making arts and craft. Even then we never managed to glue ourselves to the floor.

Next up we look at France and the judgement against Steam finally coming down. Now this is going to be an interesting topic as we look at some of the ramifications. Plus we ask the real hard hitting question that really defines the situation. That’s right folks, you will hear it here first, are the French gamers really going to care what the courts and government say? Are Valve really going to be concerned about this? If in space no one can hear you scream are all farts silent but violent? Um, yes, well if anyone can answer those let us know, these are truly hard hitting facts that we wish to know.

This week we have a review from the DJ on the anime trilogy of Godzilla movies, and wow these are looking really cool. Spoiler, they rock and you should really take the time to go and watch them some time soon. While it is cgi animation it still works well and is a whole lot of fun with the usual Japanese drama that makes Anime so much fun. These movies are Godzilla: Planet of the monsters, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, and the last movie Godzilla: The Planet Eater. Check them out and let us know what you think in the Nerds Amalgamated group page on Facebook.

As usual we have the games being played, shout out, remembrances, birthdays, and special events. Once again thank you for listening and we hope you enjoyed the episode. Take care of yourselves, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

Second Galaxy, Space Hotel & Creative Emmys

I’m a Nerd and I’m okay, I play all night and I sleep all day, I read science journals, I eat my lunch I ride on the hover train (I wish). Welcome back to another exciting and fun filled episode from those whacky Nerds. First up this week we have a story about China influencing game studios to block any references to protests in Hong Kong. Obviously we weren’t approached, probably because of Buck’s rants. But this is kind of bad as it is enforcing the propaganda of a military regime. So please listen in and then go forth and show support for Hong Kong in its bid for democratic freedom from oppression. Viva la revolution!

Next up we look at news of resorts and hotels being planned for space. That’s right, hotels in orbit! You will be able to play basketball in one if you are so inclined. There is even mention of accommodation available on the ISS for a price, but no airport transfers, sorry. So if you know anyone expecting a return visit from aliens and wanting to avoid those pesky immigration queues then this might be just the ticket.

Then we look at the Emmy awards, particularly the creative side. They took place recently and there are some interesting winners to take a look at. There are the usual suspects that are to be expected, such as Game of Thrones, but also others such as “Age of Sail.” So take a look through the list and see who you like and also if there is something you like and we over looked it.

As always we have the shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and special events from this week in history. We are planning on being at Supanova again this year, if you are let us know and we will be happy to see you. Until next time stay safe, take care of each other and stay hydrated.

Russians, Komodo & Apps

Welcome back, we have another fun episode for you all this week. First up we have an absolute idiot in Russia insulting adult comic book readers. Now, we must apologise for the response to this segment, we Nerds love our comics and really enjoy reading them. As fans we love the artwork, the complexity of the stories, the downright fun of it all, and the insane gadgets that end up becoming a reality. Although we are still waiting to see the Fantastic 4’s flying car. Now things get heated in this as you might expect, but wow, you will love this. Would you like to learn more?

Next up we have Australian Dragons and their last surviving cousins living overseas. For all those people who have decided to live abroad after they finish university you aren’t the first. Oh no, not even close. You are a few thousand years behind these guys. Now as typical Aussies they like to relax over a nice steak; enjoy a bit of time in the sun, and when they get angry fighting like a legend. Just in case you are wondering who we are talking about it is the, yeah nah. You will need to listen in to find out.

Do you wish you could go play certain games you had on an old phone but are having trouble finding it? Perhaps it is a game on a friend’s phone and no matter how hard you look you just never seem to know where they got it from. Well things are about to get worse, because Infinity Blade are no longer supporting some of their games. So, better check out what this means for that bundle of games you have in your library and read those acknowledged agreements and game licences. Are you freaking out? Well listen in to find out what is happening before it is too late.

As usual we have the shout outs, remembrances, birthdays and special events of interest. We would like to say thank you to all the awesome fire fighters battling the numerous bush fires raging around Australia. For all those people who have lost homes, businesses, jobs and all those things that make a life we hope you are safe. As always, stay safe, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

Outback, Chucklefish & Terminator

IT’s that’s time again, yep, the Nerds are here with another fantastic episode of random pop culture news. So please ensure your seats are in the upright position and trays are folded away as we are expecting to experience turbulence. This week we are taking a look at Western Australia with Buck. Apparently NASA and the European Space Agency are spending time there in preparation for their upcoming missions to Mars. Apparently it is as close as you can get to Mars conditions without going there. Just with super spikey Spinnefex grass to poke holes in your clothes, body, and anything else you put near it. This stuff is more painful than a cactus. But the main reason why NASA and the ESA have scientist out here isn’t for an all-expenses paid holiday. No, they are here to work. What is that work, well it is the first topic so listen in.

Next we hear about a bunch of dead beats who didn’t pay a kid for his hard work making an awesome game. That’s right, a gaming studio has actually shown themselves to be a bigger bunch of scumbags then a politician on the campaign trail. Apparently they only have a small number of employees though, so it was all just some misunderstanding. Wait a minute, hold on, Buck hit’s a sore point here and makes sense in regards to what the dirtbags are up to. Of course this is utterly outrageous, particularly if he is right; my goodness, if he is we’ll never hear the end of it. But if he is, oh the humanity, oh no, this is devastating. But if you want to know more of what I am rambling on about then you know what to do, that’s right, listen in.

At the sound of Tinker Bell waving her magic wand please turn the page… ohh, um, wait a second, are you still here? Dang nabbit! Well in that case We have the DJ for you with a story about a new spin-off for the terminator. James Cameron has announced his plans to reboot the series and is planning to do so after he finishes the Avatar series. So it is a race to see what comes out first, the new reboot of Terminator or Star Con, um, Star Citizen… Well I think we will all be old, even the Rolling Stones won’t be touring anymore by then. Perhaps One Direction will be back together for a reunion tour…oh the humanity, the torture, please stop. On a better note check out our friends at “Off With The Fairies” another outstanding TNC podcast. After this we have the usual shout outs, remembrances, birthdays and special events. As always, stay say, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

Valve, Lasers & G.I.Joe with special guest Shaun from Comics2Movies

Well do we have a surprise for you all this week, oh my goodness, you are getting a bumper edition with a special guest appearance. Now if I was nasty I would just leave it at that, but cliffhangers lead to binge watching an entire season normally. So, in a sense of harmonious respect we are only building the tension with this prattle, it is less irritating apparently. Honestly though don’t you just hate it when those jokers asking questions on trivia shows drag it out then go to a commercial break? We’ll be right back after this message….

Okay, so down to business, first up is our special guest Shaun from Comics2Movies fresh back from San Diego Comic-Con… Yep and he has some awesome news for us also. Who did he meet, what did he do, what has he got planned for us? You will need to listen in to find out.

Next up we have the Professor with news about a monumental stuff up due to ambiguity in the terms of a contract from Valve relating to Steam. Yep, due to some over sight or sheer stupidity a detected vulnerability to Steam was ignored and the researchers involved were treated pretty badly. Which let’s face it is kind of the dumbest thing you can do right. But if you would like to know more we have it, and you will laugh at some of the comments involved in this topic. We did.

Then we have Buck with the development of a new process of welding ceramics that has major implications for all kind of endeavors. This process means that the component technologies for everything ranging from pace makers to an endless variety of circuitry can now be ceramic. This is espically awesome, this is another of those ground breaking moments that might slip by unnoticed by some people. But the changes that will result from this in years to come will be immense.

Then we have the DJ to talk about the reboot of G.I.Joe to help cash in further on an already established brand, or is it? That is a question that arises, similar to the recent reboot of Ghost In The Shell: Arise. Like what we did there, cool huh, and no the Professor didn’t write that Segway, honestly. But this is certainly a moment when having to crusty old blokes on the show is interesting. We round out with the usual shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events of interest. As always take care of yourselves, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

Comets, He-Man & DayZ

Welcome back for another amazing episode from the Nerds, it is full of fun stuff, amazing science, and some crazy stuff. We hope as always that you enjoy it and perhaps by accident or intentionally learn something cool. I remember when I found out about chemistry, It was a long, long way from here, I was old enough to want it but younger than I wanted to be, Suddenly my mission was clear… All about chemistry. OK, I know that is the song Chemistry by Semisonic, but it relates to our first topic from Buck, which is all about chemistry and producing oxygen on Mars, Comets, and interplanetary space travel. That’s right we are one step closer to science fiction becoming reality once more. Honestly, where would the world be without science, science fiction, or Nerds to think up the impossible dreams? Although we must apologise for the zombie apocalypse resulting from the advancements in technology; otherwise known as reality television, social media, or just uncontrollable gaming. But, all that aside scientist have found a way to change carbon-dioxide (CO2) into beautiful oxygen (O2). That’s right, you heard us correctly, and it doesn’t involve a chemical scrubber like those currently used on submarines. No, this alters the very nature of the chemical bonds on a molecular level in a whole new way.

By the power of Greyskull, someone has the power. That’s right folks, He-Man is coming back to our screens in the near future it seems. DJ has brought us news that a new extension to the story of He-Man is in the works, he says it is an anime, but we aren’t sold. But it is exciting that it appears to not be a rebirth or re-imagining. But then again that is those weirdos over at Disney doing all the remakes, except for the unfortunate incident with She-Ra. Whoever is responsible for that fiasco is a greater villain than Skeletor and Hordak combined. Seriously, it was traumatic to see what had happened there. With the contentiousness of is it going to be able to claim the title of an anime aside, He-Man is looking promising.

Next we have the Professor bringing us news about the censorship of a few games in Australia and the impact that is having on the world. Now we normally don’t agree with a lot of the issues in censorship, or Material Ratings as they are referred to, but this time there is some merit. This topic is one in which the Nerds have a heated debate, and Buck really gets fired up, DJ gets angry and the Professor needs a whip and chair to keep them apart. So if you feel strongly about the topic of censorship this might be a poignant topic for you. We apologise if we offend anyone during this section (I know we don’t normally, but hey). Let us know what you think on the matter, is Buck an old fart that needs to be exhibited in a museum, is the DJ taking the matter too light, is it somewhere in between (like the Professor).

As always we have the games played this week, which is looking interesting. Also the weekly shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events of interest. As always stay safe, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

Spaceport, Steam, The Boys

Welcome back to the latest episode of tom foolery from the Nerds, we have another amazing showing for you this week. Starting off we have Buck telling us about Spaceport America and how Virgin Galactic has moved in and is closer to carrying passengers into space. So get those cheque books out, prepare to sell a kidney because tickets are $250,000 each. But you will need to wait in line as 600 are already sold. But hey, at least this will be a much more comfortable ride then that of Laika, the dog kidnapped from the streets of Moscow and sent into space all those years ago. This has got to be one of the coolest joy flights out there (when it finally gets airborne).

Next up the Professor brings us news about Steam becoming strict in relation to release dates. That’s right folks, no longer can dodgy developer’s use Steam’s coming soon feature as free advertising. No, Steam has come out with the metaphysical switch and spanked those fiendish louts for being such naughty children. From now on if the release date needs to be changed you need to listen in to find out exactly what happens. What, you thought we would tell you everything here? Come of it, we tell you in the podcast so listen in.

Then we have DJ looking into The Boys the new show from Amazon. This show is being advertised as the most successful show ever, which is saying something as they have a number of great shows. The premise of the show is a battle between the Heroes and a group fighting to bring them down. Buck gives us a heads up that one superhero dies during season one, but not how. All we know is that it is a crappy way to die. DJ is excited about the rise of indie comics and the refreshing change that is happening by using these for content rather than just relying Marvel and DC for superheroes. Want to know more? So do we, listen in and tell us what you think.

We look at the games the Nerds are playing and have some discussion around them, with some interesting facts coming out. We know, sorry for educating you with random facts against your will. As normal we have the shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events of interest for the week, or do we? You will need to open the show and listen in to find out, also why this metaphysical question is asked. Anyway, please remember to take care of yourselves, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

Stress, Picard Prequel & E-Scooters

Here we come, washing over the net, getting happiest looks from everyone we know. Hey hey it’s the Nerds! We are back once again with a brand new episode for your entertainment pleasure. This week we have another fun filled episode for you, and we promise not to sing. First up the Professor continues his series on Game Developers with a lot of information on some funding support that is available. We also look at the negative side of crowd funding with the keyboard warriors and trolls being their useless selves. So if you are interested in becoming a games developer and have been listening in on the rest of the series you are sure to find this helpful and interesting.

Next up we urge you to grab yourselves a cup of Earl Grey, hot, and prepare for some awesome news from the Star Trek universe. There is news that some Picard prequel comics and novels are on the way. At present we aren’t expecting to see a young Picard running around the vineyards in France breaking hearts with the wind blowing through his hair. That sounded like bad fan fiction, sorry. Anyway we are certainly looking forward to this fabulous news material.

Buck has word that e-scooters are not as green friendly as is first suggested. That’s right, Buck is unhappy with the misperception of those zippy little shared e-scooters littering up the city. Apparently a study has shown some data that questions their usage, let alone the materials used in the manufacture of the various components. Then there is the issue of the scooters ending up in water ways. That’s right, some idiots are throwing e-scooters into rivers, creeks, lakes and other various waterways. Some people are seriously troubling in the level of stupid they present to the world.

Next as usual we have the various shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, events of interest and the games we are currently playing, minus one host who was abducted. Was it by aliens, the CIA or someone else we may have insulted? You will have to listen to find out who; then we think we will see who comes up with the most interesting answer. Let us know what you think. As always, stay safe, take care, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

Solar powered, Steven Universe & Barely Surviving

Are you ready? We hope so because here it is, another amazing episode from the goofballs of Nerd pop-culture to entertain you once again. This week we bring you some brilliant stories that are sure to educate (we apologise for those not looking to learn, we are Nerds, you have got to expect it). There are some laughs, so grab hold, strap in and let’s get this party started.

First up we have Buck with solar powered water filtration systems that are looking pretty darn good. Trust me, when you look at the science behind these you will understand why we got excited, I mean this is fantastic and the possibilities are amazing. While they are only in the early development stages the fact is that this is game changing technology to make life better.

Next up DJ has news about the Steven Universe movie, that’s right, not Marvel. Now we know that some of you are going to be fans of this on many levels, I mean who doesn’t like 80’s style dance and music to solving the world’s problems. It worked for the Care Bears and the Smurfs and they are still around, let alone Bob the Builder. Now, we won’t give away the storyline and details, but just remember we can fix it.

Next we have the Professor with the story of struggling game developers trying to make it big in a world full of nasty companies. This is a look at the realities of the various platforms available and the costs incurred in bringing games to an over saturated market. Think we are joking consider 40 plus games a day being released, some of which are clones. Now before anyone gets upset, software clones are not aliens who have escaped from Area 51. So, if you want to understand why Geeks and Nerds look stressed and sleep deprived this will explain it to you. Also it is why we review the games we are playing each week to try and help identifying something cool.

Next is the regular shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events of interest. We take a moment in this to pay respect to the Swiss that even their train accidents are organised. While serious injuries and fatality is never a laughing matter the Swiss are the people who are so organised they make a German sweat about the details. That is it for another week, remember to take care of yourselves, stay safe, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

Nintendo America, Comic-Con 2019, Microrobots

Yes, it is that time at last; the latest episode from the Nerds is here, so everyone can relax, the wait is over. Once again, we bring you an awesome show that is jam packed full of the topics that are crossing our desks. First up we bring you news that many of us will find refreshing, Buck does. Now hold tight to your pencils as we tell you about how the all-powerful Nintendo are being sued in a class action because of faulty equipment involved in the Switch. Want to know more to see if this can help you with that dodgy gadget playing up? Well it is the first topic and there is some truly interesting developments arising from this.

Next we have a brief news update from San Diego Comic Con, with the talk from Marvel and also some from DC. No, we still aren’t getting paid by them, contrary to the way it appears. But there are some really cool things coming up to look forward to from both groups. We hear about the Marvel Phase 4 universe and the various upcoming movies. DJ is excited about these and is quite eager to see these unfold. There is the news about the various DC series with some shows seeing a possible end and others announcing the latest seasons.

Next up we need to go grab our magnifying glasses as we look at micro bots. That’s right micro bots, tiny little robots that are going to help change the world. One operates in response to specific frequencies and is called a Bristle bot, totally cool. The other is even smaller and is operated by optoelectronic tweezers (OET), which use light patterns to directly interact with the bots. That’s right – LIGHT FEAKING TWEEZERS!!! Sorry about that, but that is so cool, these bots are so small normal tweezers are too big. Would you like to know more? Well then, you are going to love this, listen to the episode and you will hear a lot more.

As normal we have the Shout outs, Remembrances, Birthdays and Special Events for the week. What do you me and a poltergeist have in common, probably more than you would realise, to find out more head over to our friends at the great new podcast from TNC by that very name (You, me and a poltergeist). Now that is a Segway, now it is time for me to go, time for this to end, but before I vanish let me just say this last little thing. Look after yourselves and take care of each other, stay hydrated and keep Nerdy. Catch you all next time.

Shang Chi, Small-Time Game Devs & Small Horned Dinosaur

Welcome back once again for another episode from the wacky Nerds. This week we review the speculation of the latest offering from Marvel. Discuss issues confronting small game developers and some proposed solutions, and we also have a horny dinosaur. Sound exciting, it is, so strap in and come along for the ride.

So, Marvel have announced the release of a new hero, and it is a Chinese character and speculation has been rife on who it is going to be. There are suggestions of a couple of Chinese heritage actors and everyone seems to be loving it. Even Buck is sounding kind of impressed. There are concerns about the back story of this character, but the hippies will certainly find something to complain about.

Next we have the information about the struggles faced by small game developers trying to generate traction in today’s market place. Independent game developers are producing some interesting content back due to the market place they struggle to survive and remain in the market place. We also ask our resident developer about his experiences and how he dealt with them.

Then we take a moment to learn about a horny dinosaur from China. Oops, sorry, a horned dinosaur from China, called the Auroraceratops, cousin of the Triceratops. Perfect for the individual in the market for a pet that is a little bit different. This beautiful little creature is adorable and a herbivore, with currently eighty examples having been found. We talk about the different possibilities of how it looks and found examples that are very different, including examples that have feathers.

This will be followed by the usual discussions of games we are playing, shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events of interest. We have lots of fun and laughter while recording this episode, and we hope you have just as much fun listening to it. As always remember to look after yourselves and look out for each other and stay hydrated.

Experiments, Manga & Child Safety

WOW!!! This week’s episode is out of this world and filled with Lunatics, parks and just outright fun in the powder or snow. NASA is planning on sending people back to the moon and are starting to plan missions in advance with an eye to researching developments for future exploration. That’s right folks, it may not be 1999 but Moonbase Alpha is finally looking at becoming a reality. Plus there are going to be new buggies and other equipment being sent to the moon so the Astronauts will have something to play with when they arrive next. Wonder if they will find that hidden base full of Nazis on the dark side of the moon or transformers?

Next we look into why Manga sales are taking over the U.S comic sales. Could it be the fact that the subject matter is just so much cooler, fun and broad? Or is it part of some plot to take over the world and they are brain washing us all? Hmmm, if this was an anime episode we would now include a musical interlude. The scene, while our heroes wander the country looking for the answer our work on computers calculating and plotting what is happening. This is when the nutty and bumbling sidekick runs around in circles and makes a mess and eats lots of fried chicken. Jeepers, we are living in an anime, now I want my ramen and feel an overwhelming need to run down the street with my arms flung behind me screaming. Nope, not happening, oh well, such a shame.

In response to a request from a listener we have had the Professor look into child safety measures in gaming such as the new Harry Potter Wizards Unite. We have a number of articles linked in the notes that have information that can help parents develop strategies aimed at helping protect their dirt magnets, children or teenage food disposal units. There are some really good points and suggestions in this, but as we aren’t parents we are unable to offer any expert advice. This is a really huge topic and it is something we took extremely seriously. If you have any suggestions please feel free to post them on the page and share with each other.

Now, it is that time where we have the usual shout out, remembrances, birthdays, and special events. Be careful of those surprise mechanisms that try to loot you like a politician with eight arms. Take care of yourselves and look out for each other, stay hydrated and we will catch you next time. Cya!

Dr Stone, Brain Circuits & G2A

Well once again we have an amazing show for your entertainment, DJ brings us news of a new anime series, Buck has news about brain circuits, good and bad decision making, and finally the Professor brings us news about fraud and scams. But first up we wish to just say welcome ad thank you for joining us once again.

Now the new anime series is called Dr Stone, set in a post-apocalyptic world where everyone has been turned into… Statues and society is to be rebuilt using science. So the premise is looking interesting, the promo gives some comedic content to look forward to. It looks like it will be worth checking out for a laugh. We wish to advise that no DJ’s were harmed during the recording of this and he was ok, just a bit stranger than normal. Which in itself is quite remarkable really, but we digress. Dr Stone has 24 episodes at this point and aired from 5th July on Crunchyroll. So, check it out and let us know what you think.

Now, have you ever wondered why people continue to make the same silly decision repeatedly? For example, people repeatedly using harmful drugs, voting once again for moronic politicians, and reality television shows still being watched. Seriously who watches that stuff, can they just stop it please so we can get better content that doesn’t make us want to claw our eyes out! Umm, yes, bad decisions, well a recent study has been conducted and shows support for the hypothesis that three particular regions of the brain are involved. That’s right, it is not just the frontal lobe, it bounces between various sections and is actually quite involved. If one section is not working right then the result is an individual with a predilection for bad choices, like the foolish nut job mumble rappers like lil stump, or is that bump, whatever, no one cares really. This is when Buck starts to get technical with some of his explanation and has to pause to calm down.

Professor tells us that game developers would rather we pirate games from something called file sharing, whatever that is. They urge this be done instead of using G2A due to a constant amount of fraudulent activity causing problems for both consumers and developers alike. That’s right folks, game developers are apparently tired of nasty vermin cheats who are ripping off everyone, this is a very interesting topic that has a number of issues involved and hits at the heart of our gaming recreation. So check it out and see what exactly is happening.

As usual we have the shout outs, remembrances, birthdays and special events of interest for the week. We also wish to say that a surprise mechanism is a trap, and so are loot boxes, so please EA, stop treating us as morons. But other than that, please remember to take care of yourselves, look out for each other and stay hydrated. Also check out the folks at Off with the Fairies and tell them we said hello.

We will return next week at the same Nerd time, on the same Nerd podcast channels, and at the same Nerd place (preferably over a cup of Earl Grey, hot). Catch you next time.

Solar Farms, C.O.D Child Soldiers & Zoids

We wear horn-rimmed glasses with a heavy duty lens, button down shirts and a pocket full of pens. That’s right the Nerds are back again with another episode that some may say is entertaining, a few might go so far as to describe it as educational, but it is Nerd operated and focused. This week we don’t have a fabulous show for you all, sorry, no it is in fact AWESOME!!! We have some absolutely mind blowing news that is as revolutionary as going from an 8 bit operating system to a 32 bit IBM back in the 70’s.

First up Buck has news about the English finally realising that the areas around solar farms etc can actually be used as green space and help provide habitat for the endangered wildlife. We don’t mean the DJ after he gets a bit of static electricity from scuffing his feet in the wool carpet either. No, we mean birds and the like that some grotty people have destroyed the homes of. This sparks the discussion of how can we implement similar measures to improve society. Have you heard about the bladeless wind turbines? We have and even have a link, they are so cool and even more environmentally friendly.

Next up is the Professor with child soldier. Oops, sorry, that is supposed to read Call of Duty Modern Warfare (the latest of the latest of the most recent up to date Modern Warfare – we think). Yep, if you are still wondering why the put in the Airport chapter in the other Modern warfare (don’t ask or we will look at you like a dog when you do something silly) we have something equally confronting, pointless and kind strange even. No not DJ either for those smarty pants who were going to say it. Nope, they have child soldiers in the latest instalment of, oh you get the drift. Well apparently some people are upset about it, surprise surprise surprise, you just put on the Robin Williams voice for that didn’t you. Well we talk about this and Mobile Suit Gundam, how do these topics link? Listen in, and find out.

The next topic is about the Zoids franchise delivering a new manga series for us all to enjoy. That’s right folks, a new series to further expand your library, your mind, and lighten your wallet. We are still light on the details but hopefully it is going to maintain that high level of fun, entertainment and action that we all love.

Now, for the Marvel fans we apologise (Buck says no we don’t); but, Batman is getting a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. That’s right, the caped crusader is being recognised and celebrated. The first Super hero to be so recognised, and it is DC first once again. This is part of our usual line up of shout outs, remembrances, birthdays and special events. We hope you enjoy, take care of yourselves and look out for each other, remember to stay hydrated, catch you all next Bat time, on the same Bat channel.

Blade Runner 2019, Pokemon & Textile Recycling

Welcome back to another exciting episode from those wacky Nerds you all love. This week we have actually made an episode that actually happens to be both Nerdy and entertaining somehow. It may actually even be able to be described as illuminating and educational, but that is up for debate. Now the ever important first topic, we have found out that there is a new series of graphic novels (or comics if you are as ancient as Buck) set in the Blade Runner universe at the time of 2019. Which, for those individuals that have been living in a cave or under a rock; and somehow have never read the book or seen the fabulously stupendous movie is the year it is set in. Not our perfunctorily boring reality, as we don’t have replicants and space colonies, sad to say. Oh humanity, the 60’s and 70’s were looking so bright, then you got caught up with hippies and drugs and look at you now, still stuck on earth with moronic politicians that are utterly boring.

Next up we look at the new Pokémon game and discuss some of the various aspects, highlights and what we believe may be oversights as well. We wonder about the cross over into Super Smash Bros. Is Nintendo looking at a massive reveal next year at e3 with the launch of the Switch2, will we see all the various Pokémon from all evolutions of all games included in a monster pack? Will this be the start of a new trend in gaming? Will that stain come out of my favourite black shirt? Who knows, what we do know is that this is looking like a fun game to play so keep your eyes open and catch it while you can.

Buck brings us news about the excessive waste of clothing going to landfill and polluting the planet. That’s right, all you strange people out there wearing lycra and spandex. The micro fibres from synthetic clothing are bad, nasty and downright toxic. Shame on anyone wearing synthetics, don’t you know they harm the environment. We, unlike some people have scientific evidence supporting this statement, so listen in and see what we are talking about. If you want to learn more please refer to the link provided. If you wish to read the article please go to page 61, if you wish to remain ignorantly oblivious please go to page 666. Hope you like the flash back to the choose your own adventure books, if you grew up reading these you are lucky.

As normal we have the various shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and special events. We also talk about the games we are playing. As always please remember to take care of yourselves and look out for each other, stay safe and hydrated, got to catch them all…
